Originally from South-Africa, it is in the commune of Espira-de-l'Agly in the Catalan territory that Tom Lubbe puts his suitcases to set up his Matassa domain. He formed in his land Natal then at Gérard Gaby, one of the great talents of the Calce terroir.
Between 2001 and 2003, he bought 15 hectares of vineyards planted on exceptional terroirs amounting to 600 m altitude and scattered between Calce and the heights of Fenouillèdes.
Tom installed with him a fresh and innovative vision, looking above all a frank minerality in his cuvées, in a terroir having rather used to powerful wines.
And it is a successful bet, its wines are incredible of purity and liveliness, without losing complexity and depth.Many have been inspired by his work, like Mataburro for example.
